Time and the Scratch team evenutally beat MSC.

The MSC indoor team fell to a 10 run defeat to the Indoor Scratch team this week. Facing a team of experienced baseball players and NSL players the team put up a great fight, but a low scoring first inning put the team in a tight spot going into the last inning. Unfortunately time ran out on the 3rd inning rally with the team still 10 runs behind.

Overall there were lots of positives to take from the game. Once the team got going the batting was a plus and made a bit dent in the deficit the slow fielding start had created. If the team continues to score 40+ runs each game the wins will come. Where we need to tighten up is our fielding early on. We didn’t put enough pressure on the opposition early, make some small errors that eventually cost us big runs.

This is all good experience for our rookies, 4 of whom playing last night have less than 3 games experience. Next up we play BA and look to register our first win of this league season.

A Good, if Loosing Start to the Indoor League

The 2013 Windsor Indoor league finally got underway on January 21st. Week 1 being wiped out due to bad weather. The weather for week 2 was equally bad, and resulted in our team loosing a number of players from the original roster. However, this enabled us to field four players new to the club. So the first team fielded by the newly named Maidenhead Softball Club was a mix of rookies, veterans and couple of borrowed players for the night. The first game was against Baps and Balls, a mix of Windsor Knights and Ascot players. In the end Baps and Balls ran out 45-43 winners. However, looking on as a coach, this first outing was about the performance and how our new players handled their first experience of any kind of softball let alone the indoor variety. There was lot to be pleased about, apart from the narrow margin of defeat, the rookies performed well and with the returning of more of the veterans players in the next few weeks, the indoor team is starting to take shape. This bodes well for the up and coming outdoor season. Next week MSC takes on the “Scratch” team, this will be a real test, as they looked very good in their first game.
