The Royals suffered their first defeat on the road this season loosing 21-16 at Richings Park. The Royals came away wondering how they lost a game they lead for the majority of the seven innings. A mad 5 minutes in the bottom of the 5th inning cost the Royals the 8 runs they lost by. Having got the first two outs in the inning, the Eagles took advantage of some Royals fielding errors to pile the runs and the agony. That was enough to give the Royals too much to do. Having lead 14-11 going into the bottom, the Royals felt they had the edge, but that 8 run 5th and a 5 run sixth inning finished off the Royals challenge. On an evening where the leading teams all lost the result still dented the Royals ambitions for a top half finish as they dropped to fifth, although the top 5 teams are all separated by just one point. It doesn’t get any easier for the Royals, next up they host the table topping Windsor Knights.
In Division 2, the Maidenhead Rebels suffered their third defeat in a row to fall to 1-3 for the season. The highlight of the game was the new National Baseball Softball being officially used for the first time in league play. Beyond that the Rebels put in a poor performance on the new diamonds. Errors where the dominate feature of the game with the Rebels handing Chalfont Firebirds half their runs in a 30-15 defeat. The Rebels have chance to even their record out next week as they host a double header against bottom of the table Marlow.
