Maidenhead Royals began the 2015 Indoor season with two wins. This is the first time the Royals have won either the opening fixtures to the delight of their captain, Julia Barlow, who commented after the game, ”It was fantastic start to the Indoor season. You can see below the scores reflect just how well everyone played together.”
Opening up the Royals faced Bracknell Scorchers, who were making their debut in the indoor league. This was a good early test for the Royals, who after leading 19-7 after the 1st inning seemed to be passing with flying colours. However, Bracknell then tightened their defence up and reduced the Royals lead to 9. In indoor, 9 runs is not a big lead. The final inning was a defensive battle, with the Royals experience from past campaigns finally closing the game out to win 33-19. In their second game, the Royals faced the RG Blue Sox, the Blue Sox had piped the Rebels to the Division 2 title last season, so the Royals were out for a modicum of revenge. The victory against Bracknell had been built on defence and against the Blue Sox, the the Royals defence again proved it’s worth holding their opponents to a minus score. A 17 run inning put the Royals in a commanding position, 17 – -3 up. The Blue Sox rallied in the second and third innings, cutting out the unforced errors restricted the Royals to just more 8 runs. However, this valiant defensive ultimately proved in vain. The Royals kept the Blue Sox to just 1 run and ran out 25-1 winners. These two wins put the Royals second in the early season table, tucked in behind RP on run difference only. Next up, BA on Wednesday February 4th.
